I love embracing the new. I really am a person who jumps at new experiences and who enjoys change. In my opinion and experience, I find change often brings about a lot of growth, helps with moving on from what has already served me and helps me evolve into better version of myself. So, why have I named this post: embrace the NU? Nope, not a typo! My friends at NU Life Therapeutics also embrace the NU and their products are designed to help you evolve to a healthier and happier place. I’m all about that evolution!

Recently NU Life sent me a sweet kit that targets digestive health and part of this kit included a powder called “Healing Fiber” that is a vanilla orange flavour. Having the powder mixed with water alone tasted delicious, but it also gave me an excuse to get creative in the kitchen once again, and you know I’m always up for a new smoothie bowl, right? After some deliberation and trial and error, I ended up with a stellar breakfast bowl that I’m calling The Island Tropic Creamsicle. I really can’t wait for you all to taste this one and let me know what you think!

The Healing Fiber and the rest of the kit (which can be found here) are formulated especially to help with bowel irregularities and to heal symptoms of leaky gut.

Do you know what leaky gut is?

Well, if you don’t, let me give you the low down.

Leaky gut is something that can develop over time from exposure to things in our modern world such as processed foods, antibiotics, alcohol and stress. This leads to development of small microscopic holes that can allow substances through the gut lining directly into the blood stream causing systemic inflammation. Symptoms that present when one has leaky gut include multiple allergies, bloating and gas, irregular poops, mood issues and hormonal imbalances, etc. The products found in the LGS GUT THERAPY kit by NU Life Therapeutics address that inflammation to bring about healing. Dietary changes, like taking out all allergens, and lifestyle changes, like finding an outlet for stress management, are also suggested to help with leaky gut.

The healing fiber contains some super sweet nutrients that I love. I’ve been taking one of them called, L-glutamine, on it’s own in capsule form to nourish the lining of my digestive tract. But, it is much more convenient to be taking in powder form and also is more beneficial to my digestive health since it is also paired with other key ingredients that help with healing, like marshmallow root (love the name of that herb btw!) and flaxseed.

Marshmallow root reduces inflammation and irritation of the gut mucous membranes, and you may have heard of flax before. It is packed with insoluble and soluble fibers that are prebiotic food for the good bacteria in our guts – making our number two’s more regular! I’ll be honest, and this is slightly embarrassing, but I get really excited and feel my best on ‘good poo’ days, so my confidence in this area is through the roof lately! LOL

One thing that really sold me on the Healing Fiber powder was how tasty it is! It enhanced my smoothie. I was pleasantly surprised since this isn’t always the case! Learn for yourself, but trying out the recipe below.

As my valued and treasured readers, I appreciate and love you! Please know, that I would never back a company I didn’t believe was beneficial to my readers and made with high quality practices. I’m very big on keeping my blog a place where I help you rather than throw products at you. If I haven’t approved, I wouldn’t be posting about it. I do really love that this product has been formed with care from a naturopath who believes it is essential to have high quality ingredients. Their kits are also condition specific, giving you all you need in one place, at therapeutic doses.

If you have more questions about your digestive health or leaky gut syndrome, don’t hesitate to email me!

Island Tropic Creamsicle Smoothie Bowl

Recipe is for 1 serving. Double the ingredients if your making for 2.

What You Need

1 cup of frozen mango chunks

1 cup chopped papaya

Half of a banana

3 large strawberries, chopped

1/2 can of premium coconut milk

juice of half a lemon

2 scoops (3 tsp) of NU Life therapeutics Healing Fiber

How To Make

Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender until all ingredients are well combined.

Pour into a bowl and then get fancy when topping your smoothie bowl.

This time I went with: coconut chunks and flakes, banana slices, strawberry slices, orange slices, quinoa puffs, chia seeds and a dash of turmeric powder

Other ideas: nuts and sees, granola, more berries, goji berries or chopped up dried fruit, hemp hearts, cacao nibs, etc.

You can also choose to simply have this as a smoothie, not a bowl. In that case, thin it out with water so it is not so thick and you can drink it through a straw- since that is the best and only way to enjoy a smoothie ;).
